Even as the dust is yet to settle over the suicide of La Martiniere student Rouvan Rawla, another Kolkata school, St James, has come under the scanner for corporal punishment.
In an interview to NDTV in June, the principal of Rouvan's school said, the child had brought stink bombs to class. He admitted to caning Rouvan, but said that blaming him for the student's death was "stretching it".
A day after the principal admitted to caning Rouvan, the alumni of the school said he had defended himself in interviews, and that Rouvan's suicide suggested that he was disturbed by environments outside his school.
